Case Carburising
Is the diffusion of carbon into the low carbon steel surface at a high temperature to a specified depth, in order to achieve the component with a hard surface and tough core

Application - Gears, Shafts, Hydraulic and other moving parts used in Tractor, Locomotives, Construction Machinery, Automobiles, Textile Machinery etc.

Through Hardening and Tempering
Improving the hardness, mechanical properties of medium and high carbon steel components depending on the alloy content in the steel. This is done by heating the job to a pre-determined temperature and soaking followed by quenching in air, water or oil. Hardening is always followed by Tempering

Application - Structural load bearing components like shafts, pins, dies and tools, axles, transmission components, gears ,hydraulic pistons and rollers used in tractors, construction machinery ,oil &gas, automobile& steel plant equipment etc

Normalizing
Process is to improve the microstructure of the steel to have a homogenous/uniform microstructure. Normally done after casting or forging to remove the inhomogeneities introduced during these processes

Application - Mainly for castings and forged parts

Annealing
Is a controlled heating and very slow cooling of steel components done to relieve internal stress, reduce the hardness and improve the ductility

Application - Wherever the component needs ductility and low hardness, before machining etc
Stress Relieving
Is employed to relieve stress prior to Heat Treatment OR post a stress inducing operation such as quenching, fabrication, machining, welding etc. It does not alter the microstructure but only relieves the stress induced in the parts

Application - Fabricated structures, dies, heat treated and welded parts

Sursulf Process
Is a low polluting nitriding salt bath treatment, accelerated by sulphur additions. It is type of ferritic nitro-carburising process. It is operated at a temperature of 565 ± 5 degC. The nitrogen thus librated along with carbon forms a compound layer on the surface of the component and beneath this layer it forms a deep diffusion zone of nitrides

Application - The case obtained is extremely hard and has low coefficient of friction and good corrosion resistance, because of formation of nitrides and carbo-nitrides. The case thus formed provides an effective solution to problems of wear, fatigue, scuffing and corrosion encountered with steels used in the engineering industries
